As Co-Chairs of the Denver Bar Association’s Access to Justice Committee, we write to personally invite you attend Denver’s Access to Justice hearing. The hearing is one of a series organized this Fall by Colorado’s Access to Justice Commission in each of Colorado’s Congressional Districts to address challenges to equal access to our civil justice system in Colorado. The hearings are expected to address the current crisis in funding for the civil justice system for indigent Coloradoans, the need for increased resources for self-represented litigants in our courts, and other challenges to the promise of “equal justice for all.” Panelists for the Denver hearing are expected to include Chief Justice Michael Bender and Justice Gregory Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court, state elected officials, and others with an interest in ensuring access to our civil justice system. Further information about the work of the Commission, and information at hearings the Commission held in 2007, can be found on the Colorado Bar Association’s website.
The Access to Justice Commission held similar hearings in 2007. They were well-attended by Colorado legislators, members of the judiciary, and the community, and resulted in important legislation affecting funding for the Colorado Family Violence Justice Fund, funding for other access to justice issues, and important changes in the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure. We expect that this hearing will similarly have a profound effect on future funding and court policy.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request. If you would like further information about the Denver hearing, please let us know.
Warm regards, Noah Patterson and Alison Daniels Co-Chairs of the Denver Access to Justice Committee
