About the Program:
Medical Legal Issues in Obstetrics Practice provides current medical and legal perspectives on the most significant healthcare and medical liability concerns in Obstetrics. The target audience includes attorneys, physicians and other healthcare professionals - particularly those in obstetrics and neonatology, healthcare administrators, risk managers, insurers, and advisors in these areas. The conference is presented in an educational environment of case presentation from both medical and legal perspectives.
Course Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the conference, learners should be able to:
1. Know what the Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology process is and what it means;
2. Understand the role of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in education regarding current practice;
3. Apply the report of the 2008 NIH workshop in Electronic Fetal Monitoring to practice;
4. Know the medical and legal issues in neonatal encephalopathy/cerebral palsy and shoulder dystocia;
5. Understand the current medical background for three other top liability issues in obstetrics practice. (Operative Vaginal Delivery, Severe Infection and Prenatal Diagnosis)
