Description:
 
The discussion will explore the process of bidding for an Olympic and Paralympic Games, including some of the legal requirements involved. The discussion will focus on certain unique challenges the United States faces in the bidding process.
 
 
Speaker: Rana Dershowitz, general counsel and chief of legal and government affairs for the United States Olympic Committee
 
Rana Dershowitz is general counsel of the United States Olympic Committee. Dershowitz oversees the organization’s legal functions and assumes all necessary functions as corporate secretary for the USOC board of directors. She also serves as the USOC’s ethics officer, coordinating with the USOC Ethics Committee, which was established by the board.
 
Prior to joining the USOC, Dershowitz served as a vice president and, prior to that, director of legal and business affairs at Madison Square Garden, L.P, handling a broad range of legal and business matters for the NBA’s New York Knicks, the NHL’s New York Rangers, and the WNBA’s New York Liberty, Madison Square Garden Network and Fox Sports Net New York.
 
Before Madison Square Garden, Dershowitz was an associate at the renowned New York entertainment law firm of Grubman, Indursky & Schindler, P.C. and, prior to that, at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. Dershowitz also served as an adjunct professor of sports law at New York Law School.
 
Dershowitz is a cum laude graduate of Harvard College, Phi Beta Kappa, and received her law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she was executive editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and a staff member of the Harvard Journal on Legislation.
 
One general CLE credit has been applied for.
