Although digital distribution of music is currently not generating enormous amounts of money, the basic rights of copyright and royalties apply in this field just as they do in the traditional world of selling and listening to music. And whether it's an audio or audiovisual work being downloaded or streamed or otherwise communicated; performance, mechanical and synchronization licenses still apply and must be negotiated or dealt with on a statutory or negotiated basis.
