Mental Health Law

CBA-CLE is proud to bring back Mental Health Law as a topic after a 17-year hiatus!  This program will focus on the ins and outs of representing clients in mental health actions, often after they have been taken to a mental hospital and medicated against their will.  Our experts will teach you the basics of how the law works in this discrete area of practice.  You will learn about medical treatment hearings including ECT, as well as sheriff's transport orders.  Trial issues will be discussed, including client presentation to a jury or judge, as well as evidence and experts.  You will learn how to decide what issues to appeal, how to maximize your chances of prevailing on appeal, and how to write a persuasive brief.  Finally, ethics including Rules 1.2 and 1.14, CBA Ethics Opinion 114, and applicable case law will be covered.  Don't miss your opportunity to learn about a very unique and important area of the law – register today!
