2008 Appellate Practice Workshop: Better Writing, Briefing, and Oral Argument
Program Description
In December 2007, Judge John R. Webb of the Colorado Court of Appeals presented a very useful, practical workshop on how to be persuasive to appellate courts, both in writing and during oral argument. The program was very successful and greatly enjoyed by the attendees. This great program is back for 2008!
Judge Webb shows you how to create the proper foundation for your appeal before you even file; how to express yourself clearly and effectively both in your written documents and at oral argument; how to use powerful roadmaps and sign posts to make it easy for appellate court judges to understand your arguments (even for complex issues); and more!
This program includes an in-class writing exercise so that you can practice your new skills right away! Judge Webb will show the attendees examples of both well-crafted and poorly-crafted language in his workshop, showing you precisely what to do and what not to do in your own writing.
Judge Webb, whose career includes over 25 years of experience as a trial and appellate attorney, was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2002. Judge Webb brings his experience, both as an appellate Judge, and as a seasoned appellate practice attorney, to this program. If you want to know how to persuade an appellate court to find in your favor, learn directly from the bench in this intensive, convenient, ½ day program!
