Once
again this year's program has been expanded to allow for
an afternoon Primer that presents four lectures on how
to organize nonprofit entities, then to obtain and
maintain tax-exempt status, differentiating between
public and private foundation charities and identifying
unrelated business income, and planning for charitable
contributions by donors.
The
following day's program will examine in-depth six areas
of particular interest this year. The annual tax update
will be followed by an examination of political campaign
and lobbying issues; the new Form 990, which has been
described by some as a self-reporting yearly IRS tax
audit and a good governance enforcement tool: nonprofit
entity executive compensation and retirement planning;
proposed legislation with respect to endowments; and
protecting the corporate existence to avoid attribution
of liability to the individuals who run nonprofit
corporations and their related entities.
The
Keynote Luncheon address will discuss how to deal with
the district attorney when embezzlement has been
discovered by the nonprofit entity.
