The Court Orientation is a program geared at introducing new attorneys and attorneys new to the area to the nuts and bolts of practicing law in Denver and around Colorado. Presentations will highlight key ethical considerations for practitioners, strategies for negotiation and litigation, practical legal writing tips, common substantive issues new attorneys face, and much more. The program will feature presentations from local judges, practitioners, and legal professionals. Approximately 8 CLE credits, including two ethics, will be applied for. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center in the upstairs Supreme Court.

8:30-9 - Judge John Madden, Denver District Court - Winning Over a Jury
Practical considerations in selecting a jury that can be persuaded and the need to simplify the case in order to make it persuasive.
 
9:00-10:00 - Maureen “Mo” Watson, CQG, Inc. - New Attorney Networking
Mo Watson, VP and General Counsel at CQG, Inc, will help us navigate the often times daunting world of attorney networking, discussing the importance of building a strong network of colleagues and potential clients right from the start.
 
10:00-10:30 - Dan Cordova, JD/MLIS, Supreme Court Librarian, Services of the Supreme Court Library
This program will explain what resources the Colorado Supreme Court Library offers and how they can be used to benefit lawyers' practice.

10:45-11:30 - April McMurrey, Deputy Regulation Counsel, Review of the Role of the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel
This program will explain the role the Colorado Supreme Court's Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel plays.
 
11:30 - 12:30 - Jack Tanner, Fairfield and Woods, P.C. - Ethical Considerations for New Practitioners
An overview of the Rules of Professional Conduct from the Introduction and Scope through Rule 8.4, with emphasis on those rules that come up most often.

1:30-2:00 - Matthew Faga, Markus Williams Young & Zimmermann LLC - Making a Positive Court Connection
This program will outline the basic information new lawyers will need to possess to successfully conduct business in the courthouse.
 
2:00-2:45 - Justice Richard Gabriel, Colorado Supreme Court, The Appellate Case
Justice Richard L. Gabriel of the Colorado Supreme Court will provide some tips for more effective appellate advocacy, including suggestions for more persuasive writing and more effective oral argument.

3:00-4:00 - Irman Sufi, Colorado Judicial Department, Use of the State Court's E-Filing System
This program will guidance in understanding how the State Court's E-Filing System works and offer information to avoid mishaps.
 
4:00-5:00 -Jake Lustig, Woody Law Firm, LLC, and Ashley Emerson, Littman Family Law, Modest Means/Moderate Income Client
A short overview on ethical and practical considerations to integrating unbundled legal services.  Presenters will explain where to find additional training and resources on unbundling legal services.
