DBA YLD Hockey Bash

On Feb. 27, the DBA YLD will co-sponsor a “DU Recent Graduate Reunion/Young Lawyers Division Bash” with the DU College of Law, the CBA YLD and Lexis Nexis. The evening includes a beer tasting sponsored by Great Divide Brewing Company from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the University of Denver College of Law. Cheer for the home team as the DU Pioneers take on the Minnesota Gophers. The cost is $15 and includes the hockey ticket, heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks and an opportunity to catch up with old and new friends. Space is limited, so register as soon as possible. DBA Seniors Courthouse Tour

On April 9, DBA members "65 or better" are invited on a tour of the new federal court house building, located at 901 19th St., in Denver.

Interested members should meet in the Jury Assembly Room at 1:30 p.m. for the free tour. For more information, call Diane Hartman at (303) 824-5312.

  


Healthy Smiles Toothbrush Drive

The Denver Bar Association's Community Action Network (CAN), in association with Kids In Need of Dentistry (KIND), will sponsor a DBA toothbrush drive during "Healthy Smiles Week," Feb. 9-13.

By teaming up with KIND, the DBA CAN hopes to double last year's donations (1,000 items were donated) for the underprivileged and uninsured children in the Denver Metro area.

To donate during the week of Feb. 9-13, please contact Lisa Williams at lisa.williams@qwest.com or Rebecca Franciscus at FranciscusR@SEC.gov. Donations can also be brought to the DBA offices, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900. Cash donations payable to KIND are appreciated.

  


Legal Night at the Center

Legal Night at the Center is the third Tuesday of each month (Feb. 17 this month), from 5:30-8 p.m. at El Centro Bienestar.

Attorneys and paralegals provide legal information to the community about ethics, landlord/tenant, and immigration issues. Volunteer by calling Dipak Patel at dpatel@aclu-co.org (preferred) or (303) 777-5482.

  


Sign Up to Get Locked Up

The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Lock-Up is on Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Morton’s of Chicago, 1710 Wynkoop.

Sign up to get locked up! Then, hope friends and co-workers will bail you out. All proceeds go to MDA.

The DBA YLD has raised more than $70,000 in previous years and wants to continue the tradition. Contact Megan Brynhildsen at meganb@thlaw.net to volunteer or for more information.

  


Lawyers Have Heart Race

We’ve had to postpone the Lawyers Have Heart Race until June 2005!

We’ll start planning for 2005 soon, so contact Karen Bries at (303) 824-5303 or kbries@cobar.org to get involved in the planning process or for sponsorship information.

  


Roll Out the Barrels March 22-26

It’s almost time for the fifth annual “Roll Out the Barrels Food Drive” for the Food Bank of the Rockies.

The Denver Bar Association’s Community Action Network will drop off a barrel at your firm or office. All you have to do is fill it with nonperishable food items (or cash donations) and the committee will pick it up.

Last year, members of the Denver Bar Association raised $2,651 in cash donations and 5,500 pounds of food.

We’ll also continue the donation competition by firm size (1-20, 21-60, 61-100, 101-150 and 151+ employees).

DBA/CBA ADR Section

In December, the DBA/CBA ADR section’s Court Annexed Mediation Program gathered together to say goodbye to the judges and support staff who are leaving the Civil Division, and to thank them for their support of the mediation program. Judges Larry Bohning and Brian Campbell were given special recognition for their work.
