Committees & Departments  Winter Festival! Formerly known as Christmas in January, this holiday event for foster children is on Jan. 17. Volunteers are needed to help sort toys on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m., at the DBA. Volunteers are also needed to help at the event on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Denver Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd., in Denver. DU Hockey Join the DBA YLD, DU College of Law, CBA YLD and LexisNexisTM on Feb. 27, 6 p.m., for the DU hockey game. The Great Divide Brewing Company will provide beer tasting from 6-7:30 p.m. at the DU College of Law. The fun continues when DU battles the Minnesota Gophers. MDA Lock-Up The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual Lock-Up is on Feb. 12 (place to be announced). Sign up to get locked up. Then, we hope friends and coworkers will bail you out. All proceeds go to MDA. The DBA YLD has raised more than $70,000 in previous years and wants to continue the tradition. Legal Night at the Center Legal Night at the Center is the third Tuesday each month, from 5:30-8 p.m. at El Centro Bienestar. Attorneys and paralegals provide legal information to the community about ethics, landlord/tenant, and immigration issues. Barristers After Hours Thursday, Jan. 15, is the day to be at the Rock Bottom Brewery, 16th & Curtis, from 5-7:30 for networking, socializing, two free drinks and appetizers with the DBA YLD.

It’s time to nominate deserving recipients for the annual DBA Awards, given out at the Annual Party in June. The DBA is looking for nominees for the Award of Merit, Volunteer Lawyer of the Year, Young Lawyer of the Year, Judicial Excellence and the Liberty Bell Award. Collateral Attack wins DBA Football Championship
After completing the regular season with a 6-1 record, the team Collateral Attack won the football league championship on Nov. 9, 2003, by defeating The Untouchables, 42-13. This year, the league featured 10 teams composed of lawyers and law students from both the University of Denver and the University of Colorado Law Schools. In the fall of 1968, the DBA’s Lawyer's Football League was born. The league was the brainchild of young Denver lawyer John Madden III. Each year the league’s champion is awarded the Madden Trophy in tribute to John Madden III, the league’s founder. Madden will present the trophy to the league champion at the beginning of next season in September.
