Fall Soirée, Nov. 7, 2001
Drawing more than 150 DBA members, the annual Fall Soirée was a success. Attendees enjoyed socializing and networking over Maggianos’ food and drink. Information about member benefits was also available during this happy hour party.
DBA Award Nominations You know who they are . . . the people who bend over backward to help others in the community while maintaining the highest degree of legal professionalism. It’s time to nominate deserving recipients for the annual DBA Awards, given out at the Annual Party in June. The DBA is looking for nominees for the Award of Merit, Liberty Bell Award, Volunteer Lawyer of the Year, Judicial Excellence Award, Legal Assistant of the Year, Young Lawyer of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Peace Officer of the Year and David Brofman Media Award. For more information and award definitions, see page 1 of the insert section in this issue. Nominations can be sent to Molly Osberg at 1900 Grant St., Suite 900, Denver, CO 80203. You can also fax (303) 861-5274 or e-mail mosberg@cobar.org. If you have questions, call (303) 824-5347.

Law Suit Days Once again, Law Suit Days were very successful. Every year, YLD collects gently-used suits at the Denver City and County Building to donate to organizations that outfit indigent people going into the work force. This year, YLD collected over 100 pieces of clothing for men, which were donated to the Men at Work Suit Closet in connection with Denver Works. YLD also collected over 250 articles of women’s clothing, which were donated to Wishing Well Enterprises. Thanks for all of your donations!
MDA Lock-Up The once-cancelled-now-rescheduled MDA Lock-Up will be on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Wynkoop Brewery, 1634 18th St. Put that law degree to work and get your friends and colleagues out of jail (or volunteer to be the inmate) at the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s “Lock-Up.” This YLD program raised $57,105 for muscular dystrophy patients last year. Call Beth at MDA to volunteer to be locked-up: (303) 691-3331.

Lambs Win Championship for 11th Time in 21 Years
This past season was perhaps one of the finest in league history. The league featured 10 teams composed of lawyers and law students. The Hall & Evans crew, resurrected as “XHE” (ex-Hall & Evans’ guys), posted a 5-3 record; and in the semi-finals for this year’s league championship, lost by the close score of 19-18 to its old nemesis the “Lambs.” In the finals, the “Lambs” won the championship and collected the Madden Trophy by defeating “Collateral Attack,” 21-14. Dan Reilly, the “Lambs’” quarterback, threw the winning touchdown in the game’s waning seconds. The DBA Lawyer’s Football League was born in 1968. Each year the league’s champion is awarded the Madden Trophy in tribute to its founder, John Madden III. In 1981, Tim Lamb and fellow law students Charles “Charley” Greenhouse and Dan Reilly put together a football team and called themselves the “Lambs.” —Judge Al Harrell Back | ||||||||||
