The DBA Co-Ed Softball League is back. The most relaxed softball league west of the Pecos returns June 6 and plays games on Saturday mornings through August 14. There are no umpires, and balls and strikes are not called. The entire goal of this league is to get workaholic lawyers (and their staffs, friends, spouses, etc.) out of the office and enjoying the gorgeous Colorado summers. At least six published authors with close ties to the legal community will be at the Denver Bar Association Annual Party on June 9 at the Denver Art Museum. This will be a special book signing and sale to benefit the Legal Aid Foundation. You’ll have a chance to get autographed copies for your own library and to shop for gifts.

13th Annual Institute on Advising Nonprofit Organizations in Coloradois May 7. Tuition is $159 for attorneys admitted after 1/1/02; $169 for CBA Business/Taxation Law Section members; $179 for CBA Members or reps. of nonprofit or government agencies; and $209 for non-members. Eight general CLE credits. This year’s institute will once again offer seven comprehensive lectures and a luncheon speaker. Topics include: tax update and election law
considerations; corporate law changes; Board governance issues in the post-Enron period; trade and professional associations; Colorado charitable tax exemptions and credits; planning for co-venturing with or use of business entities; and avoiding and investigating fraud.
Discovery and Evidence in the Digital Age is May 13, with tuition of $169 for CBA Judiciary Section members; $179 for CBA members; and $209 for non-members. Eight general CLE credits, including one ethics credit. An outstanding faculty will teach you about: relevance; admissibility; computers, websites and emails; unpeeling the document onion; motions for discovery; preservation orders; ethics; advising civil clients; laying a foundation; and the view from the bench.
New C.R.C.P. 16.1 is May 26. Tuition is $109 for CBA Litigation Section members; $129 for CBA members; and $149 for non-members. Three general CLE credits. After opening remarks by Justice Hobbs, you will hear about the reasons for the new rule, cases subject to 16.1, case management procedures, trial prep, and a review of hypothetical situations.
