Harvey

Jennifer Harvey of Holland & Hart was one of those honored for representing families before the federal government’s September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The program was called "Trial Lawyers Care," and was the largest free legal representation program ever undertaken. ATLA honored the volunteer lawyers at its convention in Boston recently. Congratulations.

Robert Hardaway did a signing and reading at The Tattered Cover in August for his new book Alienation of Affection, a historical novel based on the true story of the sensational 1911 murder at Denver’s Richthofen Castle.

Gutterman Griffiths & Powell has published Collaborative Law: A New Model for Dispute Resolution available from Denver’s Bradford Publishing.

Marc Musyl, a shareholder at the Denver office of Greenberg Traurig, has joined the Advisory Council of the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship at the Business School at DU.

Jerry Conover was featured in Time magazine at the end of August for starting "Hope for Generations," a group that’s asking attorney seniors who don’t need their Social Security benefits to hand them over for a great cause—several children’s projects. He’s quoted as saying: "Our goal is to take what is seen as an entitlement and use it for those who don’t have as much."

Denver attorneys Jo and Ed Timmins had their home featured in the Rocky Mountain News’ Home Front section, "an unusual mix of beaux-arts style and Frank Lloyd Wright details."

Family law attorney April Jones was profiled in The Post in August.

Lorenzo A. Trujillo, new assistant dean at CU Law and president of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, was featured in the Rocky, with his group, the Southwest Musicians. Trujillo was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Hilos Culturales for his work in preserving 17th- and 18th-century music and dance of Colorado and New Mexico.

Quite a few Denver lawyers and judges were seen on the six-part ABC series "In the Jury Room." The shows, some of which were on Colorado trials, followed different cases from start to finish, including watching the jury deliberate.

Jane Woodhouse McLaughlin, one of Colorado’s first female lawyers died July 21 at the age of 89. As a member of the state House of Representatives, she worked to reform the state’s mental health system and in a Post article, described herself as, "the people’s lawyer."

Edward B. Almon, 80, died Aug. 7. He was admitted to the U.S. District Court in 1952; he was a trustee of the Marlar Foundation, and a lifetime member of both the CBA and DBA.

Robert "Bob" Bonham died Aug. 5 at the age of 85. He was awarded the Distinguished Business Alumni Award from CU and the Distinguished Professional Achievement Award from DU, and was a lifetime Trustee of the Denver Zoo.

Mark Welch, 59, died Sept. 1. He was an active member of the CBA’s Real Estate Section.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health and safety. If you don’t get adequate sleep, you accumulate a sleep debt that can be difficult to "pay back" if it becomes too big. The result: sleep deprivation that has been linked to health problems such as obesity and high blood pressure, negative mood and behavior, decreased productivity, and safety issues in the home, on the job, and on the road. So rest up!

Paige Susan Nahlin DiStefano

Sue Fox sent this picture of her granddaughter, Paige Susan Nahlin DiStefano, born June 20 to Amy Fox DiStefano and David DiStefano, in Bangkok. The happy grandparents made the trek for her birth! The name, Nahlin, is the Thai word for lotus blossom.
