2006 Notary Law is Jan. 11, 9 a.m.–12:15 p.m. This program will inform and update participants on Colorado’s notary laws, provide a refresher on notary powers, duties, responsibilities and liabilities, and discuss new requirements. Intro to Mediation is Jan. 19, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Learn the fundamentals of mediation and gain a practical overview of the mediation process. This is the first day of a five-day mediation training program, but it is also offered as a separate one-day program. Become familiar with the underlying concepts involved in mediation, including a careful examination of the role of the attorney representing a party in mediation. Forty-Hour Mediation Training Course is Jan. 19–28, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. This new course, developed by the CBA ADR Section, will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge base for beginning a career as a mediator or learning new tools to enhance your mediation skills. The program has been specifically designed to meet the 40-hour training standards approved by the CBA and the Colorado Council of Mediation Organizations. Live only — early registration recommended due to limited space of 50 participants. Tuition is $395 for CBA members and CCMO members; $445 for non-members. 41 general and 5.4 ethics credits.

CCDB Hosts CLE Training
On Friday, Jan. 13, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar will host the CLE training "Trial Skills — The Tools To Win." The Colorado Lawyer is having a poetry contest for original poetry written by members of the CBA. Lawyer-poets may submit up to five poems; poems of 32 lines or less are preferred. Categories are: Mystery & Magic; Living & Loving; Tradition & Change; Justice & Forgiveness; Beauty Seen & Unseen; and Conscience & Compromise. Poems must be received or postmarked by May 1. Catholic Lawyers Guild To Hold Annual Dinner
