GOOD THINGS

Donors from Meridian-area businesses gave blood at the Godfrey & Lapuyade Law Offices on Thursday, Oct. 13. A total of 34 pints of blood were collected.

Ten Faegre & Benson Colorado partners have been named to the 2005– 2006 Best Lawyers in America guide: Christopher Beall, J. William Callison, Charles D. Calvin, Leslie A. Fields, Thomas B. Colorado attorneys, staff members and past presidents of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association toasted CTLA Executive Director John Sadwith in November to honor his 20th year as head of the local organization.

The University of Colorado Law School received a $500,000 commitment from the Boettcher Foundation to fund construction of the Boettcher Events Hall in the state-of-the-art Wolf Law Building scheduled to open this summer. 

Lucy Chase (age 3), Christy Chase, Margee Fawley and Isabel Fawley (age 3) participated in the Race for the Cure.

The law firms of Montgomery, Kolodny, Amatuzio and Dusbabek, and Judith F. Tartaglia sponsored a team at the Race for the Cure on Oct. 2, in celebration of Margee Fawley, the wife of a former partner at Montgomery Kolodny, David Fawley. Seventy participants registered for "Marg-Strong" and raised approximately $4,000 in registrations and donations for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The Colorado Civil Justice League honored Lee Mickus, a partner in Snell & Wilmer, with its inaugural Lawyer of the Year award for 2005.

Peter W. Burg, a shareholder at Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine, has been appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee by U.S. District Court Judge Charles L. Breyer in the Bextra and Celebrex Marketing Sales Practices and Product Liability Multi-District Litigation in the Northern District of California.

Michael Carrigan, of Holland & Hart, received the first annual Community Leadership Award from the Colorado Institute for Leadership Training. Joe Ramirez, also of the firm, was named the Outstanding New Hispanic Lawyer of the year by the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association.

 

IN THE NEWS

Leslie Kaye was featured in the Rocky Mountain News for her $50,000 donation to the Denver Center Theatre Company to fund affordable tickets for students. Students with I.D. may purchase tickets to DCTC plays one hour before performance (space available) for $10.

The Denver Post’s "Seen" section featured the SafeHouse Denver benefit where Christine Mastin was given the Community Impact Award (the Rocky also named her). In the same "Seen" column, Risa Lynn Wolf-Smith was named as the newest addition to the Colorado Ballet’s Board of Trustees. Joseph Berenbaum got a nod for attending the Susan G. Komen "A Pink Tie Affair."

The Rocky’s "Society" pages noted Bill Ritter’s attendance at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado luncheon. Holme Roberts & Owen was a corporate partner for the event. Also noted was the Anti-Defamation League fundraiser, where board members David Brody and Steve Farber were mentioned. The When I Grow Up Foundation event landed Evan Husney his mug in the paper. K.C. Veio got a mention for attending the MAX Fashion Show. Scott Robinson and Mark Grueskin attended the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center’s annual dinner.

Vincent Carroll’s column in the Rocky quoted Phil Cherner as saying: "There’s not much correlation between police work and crime prevention. Crime is largely a function of economics and demographics."

The Hill, a Washington, D.C. paper, quoted Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons’ attorney Jim Walker about the nature of Sen. Bill Frist’s blind trusts.

Don Bain was featured in the Rocky’s "In My Office" Saturday feature.

Lee Johnson’s daughter, Sydney, was pictured in The Post as a Colorado Ballet Nutcracker Sugarplum.

Post columnist David Harsanyi featured Jeralyn Merritt, for her blog, TalkLeft.com.

A Post story featured Douglas Benevento who joined Greenberg Traurig after three years as head of the state’s Department of Public Health and Environment.

Todd Fredrickson warned of holiday office parties gone awry in Al Lewis’ Post column.

DECEASED

Mr. Jack Levine died Dec. 24 at the age of 74. Mr. Levine was a member since 1960 and was in the Trust & Estate Section. He was also a member of the Lawyers’ Professional Liability and the Transition Committees.
