We Need YOU For Constitution Day!

Do you think today’s students don’t know enough about the Constitution and our system of democracy? Here’s your chance to do something about it! The DBA Democracy Education Committee needs volunteers to help out for an hour or two at a Denver Public School on Sept. 15. You would follow a lesson plan and teach elementary or middle school students about the Constitution. All materials will be provided by the Public Legal Education Department.

This is a new program and we would like more schools involved. Let us know if you would be interested in participating. Law Suit Days

The annual "Law Suit Days" are Oct. 12–13. Members of the Young Lawyers Division will be taking donations on the steps of the City and County Building, 1437 Bannock St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., each day. Donate gently-used professional clothing to help low-income and unemployed community members dress-to-impress for job interviews. Contact David Uhlig at uhligd@ballardspahr.com with any questions.

Lawline 9 — Thank You

A 9News listener recently sent this letter to the DBA:

I want to take just a moment to thank 9News and the volunteers who answer the phones for Lawline 9.

Approximately three weeks ago, I called to get advice regarding a life insurance policy; I was trying to collect on the death of my husband. I had previously collected an amount, but felt additional funds should have been paid out. Thanks to Lawline 9, I spoke with an attorney who advised that I was entitled to the additional money, that the insurance company would probably make me jump through hoops, and what direction I needed to take to get this money. I took his advice, didn’t give up, jumped through their hoops and will be receiving the additional funds sometime this week. Thanks to 9News and your continued work for the community, I was able to wrap something up in approximately three weeks that I had been working on since October.
