National Adoption Day
More than 40 children were adopted at the Denver City & County Building Nov. 17 on National Adoption Day. Activities began with speakers Judge Sandra Rothenberg, Colorado Court of Appeals; Allen Pollack, director of Family & Children’s Services at the Denver Department of Human Services; and Judge Karen Ashby, Denver Juvenile Court.
Colorado is home to more than 1,200 children waiting for permanent families. Sixty of them are in Denver. The event was held to celebrate and honor the loving families who adopt, and to encourage others to adopt children from foster care. Nationwide, thousands of children, parents, judges, volunteer lawyers, adoption professionals and child advocates gather for this special occasion.
