DBA–CLE July/August

Elder Law Basics is July 30. If you are looking to expand your practice into this growing area of law, attend this program that will review what elder law is, how it affects your practice, understanding financial powers of attorney, estate planning and administration, guardianships and conservatorships, and ethical issues.

2010 Annual Family Law Institute is August 6–8 in Steamboat Springs. Colorado’s popular Family Law Institute is more relevant than ever and thoughtfully tailored to provide information and assistance you need in a troubled economy. This is your opportunity to get practical advice and best practice tips from top judges, lawyers and mental health professionals. Join us for informative programs covering emerging issues in family law and join your colleagues for outstanding networking opportunities with an interdisciplinary audience. There are discounted registration fees for Family and Juvenile Law Section members.

2010 Elder Law Retreat is August 26–28. In the second year of the retreat, expect the popular format of the first year, with two value-packed additions. On Thursday afternoon, there is an optional VA Benefits Accreditation program, and on Friday afternoon, there are two full open sessions where attendees will have the opportunity to determine what to discuss and how. Highlights include: A Keynote by Ira Rosofsky, author of Nasty, Brutish, and Long: Adventures in Old Age and the World of Eldercare; End of Life Decisions: The Crossroads of Legal and Medical Issues; Medicaid Planning Panel; Litigating Financial Abuse Cases; Medicare’s Interest in a Personal Injury Settlement; Advanced Family Law Issues for the Elder Law Attorney; Rights of the Elderly Incapacitated or Disabled Person; and Cognitive Assessment of the Elderly.

Write for The Docket!

DBA members are encouraged to send in story ideas, pictures, tips and fun articles. Our goal is to have a newsletter that’s an outlet for prose by Denver attorneys that features stories about members, that helps members gain balance in their lives — and, basically, to run articles of interest to our members. We want to include both the sincere and the satirical! Send member announcements, ideas or content to Editor Tara Miller at tmiller@cobar.org.
