Kids and Court

Project History

The Kids and Court Committee of the Colorado Bar Association’s Family Violence Program started meeting in 2002. Since that time, the committee has explored how to improve the way children witnesses are treated by the legal system, focusing on the areas of law where children are involved: criminal, juvenile, and family law.

Members investigate the elements of a child’s involvement in court cases and the practices that are currently in use statewide and nationally that can be recommended as promising practices. Experts in the various topics make presentations to the committee and members conduct further legal research.

Anyone interested in joining the Committee can contact Theresa Spahn, chair (303/860-1674) or Kathleen Schoen, Colorado Bar Association, Family Violence Program Director (303/860-1115).
