Present at the meeting were Daniel McCune, Kent Miller, John Phillips, Bob Treece, Heather Burkham, Christopher Buckman, Dave Little, Mike Ludwig, Jerre Dixon, Craig Fleishmann, John Palmeri, Gary Abrams and Bob Turner. Daniel McCune presided over the meeting in the absence of the Chair, Michael Mihm.
Gary Abrams discussed the preparations for the practice Prevention Seminars to sponsored by the committee on next winter. Mr. Abrams discussed the results of the survey stating CBA members' preference in terms of subject matter. There seems to be a preference for having the seminar be a half day rather than a whole day. Robin Beattie, who is in charge of the program this year, has begun soliciting speakers on the most popular topics as demonstrated by the survey.
Heather Burkham reported on the upcoming issue of "Whoops." The October issue is nearly ready to be mailed out. She solicited articles for the January issue.
Dave Little reported on a proposed rule before the Supreme Court's Rule Committee regarding the "ghost writing" of pleadings by lawyers. There will be a public hearing on September 29, 1998 on the issue.
Chris Buckman reported that there are no claims yet on the Special Needs Trusts. The committee discussed other issues pertaining to Special Needs Trusts.
We have not had any recent requests for speakers from the Speakers Bureau.
Chris Buckman reported on recent developments with COREGIS/Westport. Westport will have a representative at the Colorado Bar Association Convention. Westport intends to streamline its system for receiving applications from law firms. The declination rate ratio is unchanged.
Dan McCune discussed the Colorado Defense Lawyer's Association's plans to ask for an ethics opinion on the propriety of insurance carriers requiring their approval of law firms to send bills to legal fee audit services.
Craig Fleishmann asked for information on in-house counsel's liability to corporations for an article he is preparing for the Wall Street Journal.
Bob Treece has suggested that the new Chief Disciplinary Counsel be a speaker for our seminars next winter.
