Present at the meeting were John Palmeri, Dan McCune, Rene Garcia, Chris Buckman, Dave Little, Chris Little, John Wheeler, Mike Hutchinson, Julie Revers, Reba Nance, Mike Canjes and Chuck Turner.
Chris Buckman provided an update regarding the Whoops article. He has been in contact with Cindy Fleischner regarding an article. Chris and Cindy will submit the materials to Reba Nance by the end of December.
Julie Revers provided an update regarding the “Preventing Legal Malpractice” seminar. She indicated that the brochure had been mailed and reservations were underway. Walter Houghtaling may need a substitute speaker in Pueblo on January 29, 2002. Otherwise, the program appears to be on track. The Committee expressed its appreciation to Walter and Julie for their hard work on the seminar.
The Committee discussed the Lawyer-to-Lawyer directory. Reba Nance reported that she had received answers from the Wisconsin Bar Association to the Committee’s inquires. Reba shared the answers with the Committee. The Committee continued to express some concern regarding the need for the directory. The Committee discussed using bar activities such as the swearing-in ceremony or the Practicing With Professionalism seminar to discuss mentoring possibilities. Gary Abrams indicted that he would bring a copy of the Wisconsin Directory to the next meeting in order to show the Committee how the directory looked and worked in Wisconsin.
The Committee discussed Robin Beattie’s hard work on the practice checklist. Reba Nance agreed to circulate the proposed checklist to the members of the Committee. The Committee tabled the subject until the next meeting.
The Committee discussed issues relating to attorney discipline and malpractice. The Committee discussed possible revisions to the Rules of Professional Conduct and new decisions regarding attorney malpractice.
The next meeting is scheduled for January 9, 2002.
