February 13, 2002
Present at the meeting were John Palmeri, Mike Hutchinson, Walter Houghtaling, Dave Little, Chris Buckman, Chris Little, John Wheeler, Michael Canges, Jerre Dixon, Reba Nance and Julie Revers.
Walter Houghtaling reported on the seminar. The seminar has been well attended. It appears that the half-day format works well. In particular, the Denver seminars were very well attended. The seminar was held at the Bar Association offices, instead of a Denver area hotel. This worked well. A couple of the remote locations were not particularly well attended. Still, the Committee believes that the seminar needs to be presented throughout the state.
Cindy Fleischner completed the Whoops article and Chris Buckman provided the "malpractice minute." The issue was reviewed by John Palmeri. It should be out by the end of February or early March.
Reba Nance reported on the Tuesday At The Bar presentation by Mike Canges and Jerre Dixon.
Dave Little reported on the Hanging Your Shingle seminar. Even though the seminar has been presented over the last several years, attendance still appears to be strong.
The Committee discussed the checklist and the Lawyer to Lawyer Directory. The Committee continues to be ambivalent about these two projects. The Committee is concerned that the checklist may establish a standard of care of attorneys. John Palmeri agreed to contact CBA section chairs to get their reaction. The Lawyer to Lawyer Directory may not be needed. The consensus was that many attorneys are contacted at the present time. Dave Little indicated that emphasis of the need and availability of attorneys for informal consultations would be emphasized at the Hanging Your Shingle seminar.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2002.
