March 13, 2002
Present at the meeting were John Palmeri, Rene Garcia, Jerre Dixon, Dave Little, Mike Ludwig, Mike Canges, Chris Little, Jerry Pratt, Chris Buckman and Gary Abrams.
The Committee discussed the schedule for Whoops for the coming year. Dave Little indicated that Leslie Messman was willing to write an article regarding lawyer health issues to be published in Whoops. Chris Buckman agreed to provide Westport statistics or other information to compliment the article.
Gary Abrams reported on the Preventing Legal Malpractice seminar. The seminar was presented on eight dates at seven locations. It appears that the seminar, again, was a success. Walter Houghtaling did a great job as program chair of the seminar. The half-day format appeared to have been well received. A similar program, possibly at different locations, will be planned for next year.
Dave Little reported on the Hanging Your Shingle seminar. Again, the seminar was well attended. It appears that experienced lawyers are interested in this seminar.
The Committee discussed upcoming seminar activities, including the bar convention. Apparently, there will not be a formal bar convention. Instead, various sections will schedule bar institutes. The Committee volunteered to provide educational support, with ethics lectures or the like, for the sections.
The Committee reviewed the committee section of the bar website. The information may be somewhat dated. It was provided in March of 2001. Chris Buckman agreed to provide updated information regarding insurance carriers and the like.
The Committee discussed possible mandatory malpractice insurance or mandatory disclosure revision to the Rules of Professional Conduct. John Palmeri indicated that he would speak with Nancy Cohen and report back to the Committee.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 17, 2002.
