Copyright Current Developments Generally, and the Current State of the Confluence Between Copyright Protectability and Functionality

The presentation will  be on copyright current developments with a special emphasis on cases discussing functionality and copyrightability, and the current status of fair use.

The Presenter

Katherine Spelman joined Steinhart & Falconer LLP in 1991 and practices in both the intellectual property transactional group and the litigation group of the firm.

Ms. Spelman has been practicing non-patent intellectual property law since 1980.  She speaks frequently at seminars and conferences in the United States and abroad.

Ms. Spelman is a 1977 graduate of the University of Michigan and a 1980 graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison (J.D.).

Ms. Spelman is a trustee of the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation, a member of the Amicus Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and is a trustee and current member of the Copyright Society of the United States.  She is on the Council of the Intellectual Property Section of the American Bar Association and was a member of the Governing Committee of the ABA Forum on Franchising (1999-2001).  She was President of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Association from 2000 through 2001.  Ms. Spelman is also a member of the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Internet Law, The Journal of Brand Management and The Cyberspace Lawyer.  Ms. Spelman is admitted to the Bars of the States of Wisconsin and California.
