What's new and different in Casemaker 2.0?
Will I continue to enter the Casemaker Library the same way I always have?
Yes. You will continue to go to the CBA website, www.cobar.org, login as a member, click the big blue CASEMAKER button, click the I AGREE button on the End User License Agreement page, and enter the Casemaker Library.
What's the first difference I'm going to see?
After you click on the I AGREE button to enter the the Casemaker Library, you will go straight to the Colorado Library, instead of the full States Library menu. The Colorado Library will look the same; but it will say "Welcome to Casemaker 2.0" in the upper right corner. You'll see the same menu, the same materials, in the same order.
How do I get to the "All States" Library menu so that I can search in another state library?
Click on either CASEMAKER or Full Library Menu at the top of the page. They are the first links on the left side of the Main Banner at the top of the web page.
What's the second difference I'm going to see?
The ADVANCED SEARCH tab is now the default setting in the SEARCH function for all the books of materials. For caselaw, type the citation in the CITATION field, click on the appropriate radio button just above the box, and the case will appear. Note: The radio button that said Pacific Reporter now says Pacific Cite, and the third button, Colo. Citation, is not available. When typing your citation, it is critical that the spacing and characters, including punctuation, are typed in exactly as they appear in the official reporter. Type it just like in a brief.
How do I conduct a multi-state case law search?
From the Colorado Library - or any other state library - click on Full Library Menu to view the entire Casemaker Library contents. The Multi-State Searches link is just below the Federal Library link in the left column of Library contents. The menu has State Court Opinions and State Ethics Opinions. Click SEARCH and choose the states you want to search.
Is there a box to click so you can search all 50 states at the same time?
Not yet. But it's coming soon. Right now, you have to click the individual boxes of all the states you want to search with the same search terms.
Ethics Opinions? Does that mean the Colorado Bar Association Formal Ethics Opinions are now in Casemaker?
The CBA Formal Ethics Opinions are currently available only through the Multi-State Searches link. They are not in the Colorado Library. Also, it is a partial Colorado ethics opinions library. We are aware that some of them are missing.
Do we have multi-state searches for any other materials?
Not at this time. We have multi-state searching for caselaw and ethics opinions only. If you want to search other states' statutes, rules, constitution, etc., you must enter the state library individually.
What's the CURRENCY button between the CASEMAKER logo and the list of materials?
That's the web page which used to be accessed by a link at the bottom of the Library page called Current Contents Information. The currency of the materials can quickly be determined by clicking on the CURRENCY link located near the top of each library page.
Are there any changes to the Federal Library?
Yes! The Federal case law has been significantly increased: U.S. Supreme Court from 1790; and U.S. Circuit Courts from 1950. You should be able to search for these opinions by citation now, not just case number or case name. Note: enter the citation in the CITE field and use the Case Number radio button. There is not a separate radio button for using the official citation. — CaseCheck is now available for Federal Circuit Court opinions, too!
