Tell Us How We’re Doing
The Colorado Bar Association is conducting a survey on how we communicate with members. Please take this short (three – eight minute) survey to help us improve how we share information with members. To show our thanks, those who complete the survey will be entered in a raffle to win an iPad! The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Feb. 24. Click here to complete the survey.

Employment Law and Social Media: Rights, Obligations, and Disputes in the Workplace
The intersection of social media and the workplace has become a given. Click here to read a number of practice tips regarding discovery of social media and to learn more about social media trends and how they affect you, your clients, and your practice.

Attorneys Required to Open Cases via CM/ECF in U.S. District Court for Colorado
Beginning Feb. 23, attorneys will be required to open civil cases in the U. S. District Court for the District of Colorado via ECF and make payment through pay.gov. Other changes also will occur (some before Feb. 23), including procedures for opening a case, summons forms issuance, and online fee payments. Additionally, the court has provided a list of cases that must be filed via e-mail and will be opened by the Clerk’s Office. Click here for more information.

Coach’s Corner: Do Your Due Diligence on New Clients
Under Rule of Professional Conduct 1.16, a lawyer may withdraw from representing a client if “the representation will result in an unreasonable financial burden on the lawyer or has been rendered unreasonably difficult by the client”. The simple fact is that no lawyer needs to contend with such headaches. The antidote to withdrawal is to undertake full due diligence before entering into a formal engagement agreement with the client. Click here to read more.

Tip of the Week from Reba Nance
Make Outlook Close the Original Message After Forwarding or Replying

Many of us spend all day in Outlook. We open a message and then reply to it or forward it to someone else. When we reply or forward a message and hit Send, Outlook sends the message and then puts us back in the Inbox, where we do the same thing with another message. After a period, you will notice that you have a ton of messages open in Outlook. This is because Outlook doesn’t close a message that you open and either forward or reply to. Follow the steps below, and Outlook will automatically close the original message. Try it – I guarantee you will have fewer open messages at the end of the day!

– Open Outlook
– Click on Tools
– Click on Options
– You will be in the Preferences tab
– Under E-mail, click on E-mail Options (near the top right-hand of page)
– Check the box that says Close Original Message on Reply or Forward
– Click OK

That's all there is to it! Feel free to contact Reba Nance at reban@cobar.org with questions.
