Environmental Law Section

The Environmental Law Section deals with legal and technical aspects of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory programs and related litigation. Topics include air and water quality and solid and hazardous waste issues, environmental remediation, toxic tort and citizen suits, environmental impact statements, endangered species problems, toxic and hazardous substances and environmental insurance. The section monitors statutes, regulations, and court opinions to keep its members informed of current and developing trends in environmental law and policy. Members of the section serve as editors for natural resources and environmental law articles in The Colorado Lawyer

An Assistant City Attorney - Senior provides full performance legal counsel to City officials and employees in virtually every department of the City, as well as to all elected officials. We seek an attorney with significant legal experience in environmental law, public health, and/or emergency response law to advise and represent city agencies in various environmental policy, regulatory and legal matters including:

Water quality (including stormwater management, water reuse, floodplain management);

Solid and hazardous waste;
Redevelopment of environmentally impaired properties;
Pesticides management;
Public health;
Air pollution control;
Emergency response;
Energy efficiency; and
Sustainability.

Responsibilities include all aspects of environmental law including transactional work, regulatory work and litigation. The selected candidate will be responsible for representing the city before environmental regulatory agencies and in the state and federal courts.

The Municipal Operations Section provides legal advice to a variety of City agencies and drafts legal documents for complex transactions involving municipal finance, real estate, construction services and professional services. The Section handles commercial, tax, zoning and other hearings and litigation for the City. This Section offers a steady stream of clients with an incredible breadth of legal needs.
