The committee presents monthly luncheon programs on a broad variety of topics relating to international law and practice. Recent programs have addressed negotiating and documenting international letters of credit, U.S. jurisdiction in war crimes trials, the applicability of treaties to private business transactions, compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and intellectual property issues in international settings. The committee also serves as an unofficial link with the ABA International Law Section. Attorneys who currently have international practices or are interested in the area are invited to join the committee and attend the programs to increase their understanding of this field.

 

International Law CLE Luncheon (12.12.2008)

Topic: "The Global Financial Crisis"

Speaker/Program Description: Our speaker is Marshal Auerback, a global financial analyst with over 25 years experience in the investment management business, currently as a global portfolio strategist from RAB Capital Plc, a UK-based fund management group with $2bn under management.  Mr. Auerback will discuss the current financial crisis and how it will impact the future of the global economy, taking a historic look at Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal as well as the challenges that will greet President Elect Barack Obama when he takes office on January 20th, 2009.

Most recently Mr. Auerback was a panelist at a conference held in New York titled "The Financial Crisis, the US Economy, and International Security in the New Administration" which was organized by the Economists for Peace and Security, the Charles Leopold Mayer Foundation Initiative for Re-thinking the Economy, and the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College.  A copy of Mr. Auerback's paper can be found at the following link: TIME FOR A NEW "NEW DEAL"
