REMINDER – COST OF LUNCH IS $15.00
FOR THE MONDAY, OCTOBER 27 MEMBERSHIP MEETING,
RSVP TO DONNA AT 245-4617 BY 4:00 P.M., WEDNESDAY, OCT. 22
OCTOBER 27 MEETING
Our October 27 meeting will be our politics meeting. All of the County Commission candidates have agreed to come to the meeting and give a brief presentation. In addition, Bernie Buescher has agreed to also give a brief presenta- tion. We are still hopeful that Steve King and Laura Bradford will respond. Each candidate is given ten minutes to talk to the group, answer questions, or do what they want with their time. Hopefully there will be a good turnout because it proves to be interesting.
I would appreciate receiving your reservations for the meeting by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22. Two Rivers requires that we let them know how many people are going to be in attendance by Friday. Since we are hoping for a large turnout I want to have an accurate number to give to them. Please fax to 243-3905 or call your reservations into Donna at 245-4617 by Wednesday afternoon.
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
We are in the process of developing a website which will be part of the Colorado Bar Association website. We are very excited about this development. At this point I would like the membership to submit ideas of what they would like included in the website. Please send your suggestions to Ed Nugent or Rob Zentner.
One of the advantages of setting up the website through the CBA is that we will get a reliable list serve so we can forward communication concerning our organization to all of our members who have e-mail addresses on file with the CBA. We have tried to do this in the past with ACS, but with very limited success. This service is being provided through the Colorado Bar Association and we look forward to get it running so we can start communicating electronically in a more reliable way.
SPRING FLING
We are in the process of planning for another Spring Fling event for the first part of February next year. Last year’s event was well attended and many people said they had a great time. We are hoping to do the same again this year.
SKI DAY
Hey Skiers!
If you’re interested in a group ski day, we’re trying to set one up. The particulars are: Friday, 2/20/09 or Friday, 2/27/09. Aspen Highlands ($170/pp for 20 people; $140/pp for 30 people; $125/pp for 40 people) OR Powderhorn ($100/pp for 20 people; $80/pp for 30 people; $70/pp for 40 people). Powderhorn rates drop by $8 if you are 60 or older. Amounts include bus, day lift ticket, and snacks. Dinner could be added for an additional fee or go dutch. Invite your spouse and/or friends – the more skiers we have the less it costs. Contact Sally at Traylor, Tompkins & Black, P.C. - 242-2636 or sally.lowrey@grandjunctionlaw.com with your preferences. (Time is of the essence as plans need to be firmed up.)
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Our November meeting will be an All Our Courts presentation. Steve Bernard from the Court of Appeals will come to Grand Junction for that presentation. The All Our Courts program is set up through the Bar Association and the Courts to educate the public on the role and functions of the courts in Colorado, which would include both state and federal courts. The program has been very well received, and if you go to the Our Court website, you can see a number of testimonials and an idea of what the Our Courts program is about. Not only does the Our Courts program educate lawyers about the system but also has a training program associated with it which qualifies lawyers to go to schools, service clubs, and other associations to give presentations about the court system in Colorado. There will be a two hour training session for people who are interested in giving Our Courts presentations. I will send out the time and location for that training at a later date. This should be a very good program, and the training will qualify for two hours of general CLE credits. The luncheon program will be an example of the presentation people will be trained to give.
There will be no December meeting.
