MONDAY AUGUST 24, 2009, MEETING

The August 24 meeting will offer a one-credit CLE and feature Robert Kelso’s presentation on “Forensic Pursuit”.  Simple and complex computer investigation problems are both addressed in the same detailed, professional manner using the latest in cutting-edge tools and the best, most widely accepted analysis techniques.  (from www.forensicpursuit.com)  This is a good learning experience, coupled with the benefit of a CLE credit, and the opportunity to mingle with MCBA Members.

Robert Kelso, a graduate of CU Boulder, holds degrees in aerospace engineering and astrodynamics.  He has testified in both District and Federal court as an expert witness in computer forensics and was appointed a “special master” by the court.  He currently teaches a master’s level course in computer forensics at the University of Denver.  Robert has published numerous articles including “Moving to Secure The Image - Valuable Data May Be Overwritten Forever” published in Law Week August 2007.

PRO BONO

An upcoming CLE is sponsored by the Pro Bono Project and the Colorado Legal Services Title III Senior Legal Program: Colorado recently adopted the Uniform Power of Attorney Act which will go into effect on January 1, 2010.  The Act includes significant changes to current law and terminology in the area of powers of attorney.  Mary Catherine Rabbit, the Title III Legal Coordinator of the Legal Center for People with Disabilities will present the CLE at the Old County Courthouse, at 544 Rood in the Community Room, on Monday, August 31, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  There are 2 CLE general credits available.  This CLE presentation is free for attorneys who are willing to assist with one probono case; otherwise there is a $50 charge.  To register, please call Karen Detmers, Director, Pro Bono Project, 243-7940, ext. 108.

BUDGET

At Monday’s meeting, the Board will ask the membership to vote to accept the 2009/2010 budget.  There will be an opportunity for brief discussion prior to the vote.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

SEPTEMBER 11

There will be two September programs.  The first will be held on Friday, September 11 at Noon at the Bookcliff Country Club.  This special lunch meeting will offer a one-credit CLE and will feature the new President of the Colorado Bar Association, David Johnson from Colorado Springs.  Come and meet CBA President Johnson and other CBA delegates.

SEPTEMBER 28

The second September meeting will be held on Monday, September 28 and will offer a one-credit CLE and may feature Nancy Cohen’s presentation on “What to Do when a Client Makes a Misrepresentation”.  As most of you know, Ms. Cohen is with The Office of Attorney Regulation.  An Interesting Topic – A Valuable CLE Credit – A Fantastic Lunch.

OCTOBER 26

The October 26 program will offer a CLE credit and feature Michael Valdez, Director of Legislative Relations for the Colorado Bar Association.  He will update our membership on what’s happening inside our State Capital and will highlight the new laws affecting Notaries in Colorado.  Think of some good questions for Michael!
