ANNOUNCEMENTS
PARTICIPATION
The Board would like to thank the Membership for your participation in MCBA monthly meetings and activities. Thanks to you – our members – MCBA functions and activities are much more meaningful. Please keep attending as your schedules allow. We appreciate you.
Please attend Monday’s luncheon. This is the last general membership meeting of the year. As you can tell from the announcements below, we will have a lot going on – so, please attend!
COBALT PROGRAM
Leslie Castro, Secretary of our MCBA, was chosen to participate in COBALT, the Colorado Bar Association’s leadership training program. The class will meet monthly from January to June, to build leadership skills. For more information go to www.cobar.org/cobalt
MESA STATE – TRUSTEES
Dan Robinson, Member of our MCBA and Attorney with Killian & Davis, P.C., has been appointed by Governor Bill Ritter as Trustee for the Mesa State College Board of Trustees. It was reported that affordable tuition is among Dan’s goals. Pending confirmation, Dan’s term starts this January. Congratulations, Dan.
MESA STATE – STUDENT LAW CLUB
Kimberly Ladenthin, President of the Mesa State Pre Law Club, will attend our Monday lunch with Nick Labor and Jeremy Watson. They will have information regarding the Club, which has a core group of motivated students and a faculty advisor – Prof. Michael Delaney. As you will learn, the Club hopes to grow over time with help from our MCBA Membership.
UNITED WAY
On Monday, Amanda Crysler will make a brief presentation regarding United Way’s workplace campaigns. United Way is one of the primary donors to Pro Bono, and, as such, the success of the United Way impacts all attorneys in Mesa County in having the ability to provide services to those who cannot afford legal assistance.
PRO BONO
And speaking of legal assistance, the Charlie Traylor Pro Bono award is presented each year to a local attorney who makes a significant commitment to pro bono representation of low-income individuals.
Charles “Charlie” Traylor was known throughout Colorado as a “damn good lawyer.” He was a strong spokesman and a champion of opportunity for the less advantaged.
It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors for the Pro Bono Project of Mesa County present this award at noon at the November 23rd MCBA luncheon at the Two Rivers Convention Center. Please join the Pro Bono Board as they honor Gerald Feather for his commitment to pro bono work.
“SPRING FLING”
Angela Luedtke has been organizing the 2010 (just around the corner) Spring Fling. She is continually – with some work-related interruptions – working on dates, venues, menus, and everything else that goes into a successful event. Please thank Angela or offer a helping hand if you see her around.
CLOSING (FINALLY) COMMENT
As always, if you have any suggestions for the Spring Fling event or any other MCBA function, please contact a Board Member (Rob Zentner, Michael Santo, Leslie Castro, Lloyd Quesenberry, David Scanga, or Ed Nugent) to discuss your constructive comments or concerns.
