The mock trial experience isn't about winning a competition, but about what the students involved gain and learn from this educational program. Students come away witha better understanding of our country's judicial procedures and the professional opportunities that the legal industry offers. But the longer-term impact of their experience and the mentoring from their attorney- and teacher- coaches is much deeper than that.

The impact of the program is measured by successfully attaining the following abjectives:

    * to further the understanding of cort proceedures and the legal system;

    * to improve proficiency in the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, team collaboration,

       persuasive arguement, and reasoning;

    * to promote better communication and coperation between the educational and legal

       communities;

    * to provide an educational and competitive event in an academic atmosphere;

    *to promote cooperation among students of various backgrounds, abilities, and interests;

    * to promote ethical and professional sportsmanship within an arena of team and individual

       program;
