*** Vote NO 40 Happy Hour Tomorrow
You know limiting judges is a bad idea — learn how to tell your friends, family and neighbors about why they should "Vote No 40." Wednesday, Oct. 11, 5:30–7:30 p.m., at Palomino, 1515 Arapahoe St., you’ll hear about the real consequences for Colorado if Amendment 40 passes and learn how you can get involved. The DBA YLD will provide light appetizers and two free drink tickets. Everyone is welcome. RSVP to (303) 860-1115, ext. 727, or lunches@cobar.org.

*** Clean Out Your Closet for a Good Cause
“Law Suit Days” are Oct. 12–13. Members of the Young Lawyers Division will be taking donations on the steps of the City and County Building, 1437 Bannock St., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day. Donate gently used professional clothing to help low-income and unemployed community members dress-to-impress for job interviews. Contact David Uhlig at uhligd@ballardspahr.com with any questions.

*** Jeff Pennell Presents Hot Topics in Estate Planning
This is one opportunity you don’t want to miss! Professor Pennell is the Richard H. Clark professor of law at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, an advisor for Restatement of the Law (Third) of Property — Wills and Other Donative Transfers, and an associate reporter for Restatement of the Law (Third) of Trusts. He will discuss: Marital Deduction Planning in Times of Uncertainty, Elective Shares of Surviving Spouses, and Recent Wealth Transfer Tax Developments. Estate Planning attorneys should register now. Register online: Jeff Pennell presents Hot Topics in Estate Planning; Nov. 10, 2006 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

*** Don’t Miss the Bench-Bar Retreat
The DBA’s Annual Bench-Bar Retreat will be Oct. 21, 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., at the Inverness Hotel. The topic will be: “Mending Justice.”

*** Latin-Flavored Wine Fiesta
Mark your calendars for the 13th annual Wine & Beer Tasting to benefit Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado. Held in conjunction with the DBA’s Young Lawyers Division, this year’s Latin-Flavored Fiesta will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, 5:30–7:30 p.m., at La Rumba (99 W. 9th Ave.). Enjoy fine wines from South America, Latin America, Spain and Portugal, plus fun food and friends — and don’t forget to bid on fabulous silent auction items. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door, and $25 for Young Lawyers. Contact Jodi Korthuis at jodi@legalaidfoundation.org or (303) 863-9544 for more information and to become a sponsor or provide a silent auction item.

*** Volunteer Opportunity
The Center for Education in Law and Democracy and the DBA Democracy Education Committee invite you to a very special breakfast and CLE program on Oct. 26, 7:30–8:30 a.m., at the DBA offices. Learn how Colorado lawyers can help Colorado students develop an understanding of constitutional history, principles and current issues. You will receive: one hour CLE credit, and “We the People” text and materials. Breakfast will be served. RSVP to lunches@cobar.org or call (303) 860-1115, ext. 727.
