*** New Guidelines for the Utilization of Paralegals
The CBA Paralegal Committee's updated Guidelines for the Utilization of Paralegals, which were approved by the CBA Board of Governors on May 17. The Guidelines include 21 specialty areas of practice (including four new specialty areas) and provide a general framework of potential tasks that can or should be performed by a paralegal in an effort to assist with work flow. *** Career Transitions program June 19
Local lawyer Ken Stern – who successfully "transitioned" careers – will speak on Thursday, June 19 about the process of transitioning from an active practice of law to, well, whatever stage follows. The agenda includes: Defining a Transition, Creating a Vision, Practicalities and Getting Yourself Out of the Way. Those who are in a transition stage, or anyone simply curious about how others handle personal and professional transitions, are invited to this quarterly, collegial luncheon. The cost is $10. A summer social is planned for all veterans and members of the Military Law Committee starting at 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 20 in the back “Speak Easy” room at the Breckenridge Brewery's 471 Kalamath St. location (not the downtown Denver location). *** Economic survey - a chance to win GPS, camera or iPod
Responders to the 2008 CBA Economics of Law Practice survey have until Monday, June 23, to participate and register for a chance to win a GPS tracking device, a brand new digital camera or an iPod. *** A “job fair” for retired and inactive attorneys with valuable experience
Retired and inactive lawyers interested in volunteering to help low-income persons in need of legal representation are invited to a “job fair” to learn more at 9 a.m., July 28, at the CBA offices. Under new Colorado Supreme Court rules, retired and inactive lawyers can provide pro bono legal services through qualified nonprofits without paying registration fees. In cooperation with Colorado Legal Services, the Colorado Lawyers Committee and Access to Justice, the CBA also is waiving dues for such candidates. Contact John Gleason at
