*** Raising the Bar for Legal Aid — A Humble Thanks!
The numbers are in: the Legal Aid Foundation raised nearly $1.25 million for Colorado’s statewide civil legal services program during the 2007-08 Campaign for Justice. The Foundation is excited to report that the legal community admirably met the new target-giving level for law firms, which increased for the first time in five years from $300 per lawyer in the firm to $350 per lawyer. We are grateful for your leadership and generosity, which will help so many in Colorado who have no place else to turn. For more information, visit www.legalaidfoundation.org or call Diana Poole at (303) 863-9544.

*** Seeking nominations of “Greatest” attorneys
Every July, The Colorado Lawyer honors outstanding attorneys. Nominations for 2009 are due Sept. 1. Nominees should have made outstanding contributions to the legal profession, the administration of justice and the community, and must have been deceased for at least 10 years. Send a letter or e-mail in support of the nomination to tracyr@cobar.org or via U.S. mail to: CBA Awards Committee, c/o Tracy Rackauskas, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900, Denver, CO 80203. If you're interested in researching and writing a profile, e-mail tracyr@cobar.org.

*** Award of Merit Nominations Sought
The CBA Award of Merit is awarded annually to a current member for outstanding service or contributions to the association, to the legal profession, to the administration of justice or to the community. Send nominations to tracyr@cobar.org by Monday, Sept. 1. Please include an explanation of why your nominee deserves consideration.

*** 9th Annual Business Law Institute
With timely, practical updates on the new developments in business law on the state and national levels, this year’s Institute promises to be the best yet. During this CBA-CLE program, Sept. 18-20, network with colleagues and update your knowledge on important issues in business law. Plus, you can take your entire family to a great mountain getaway. Register online: 9th Annual Business Law Institute

*** Directors and Officers Liability Insurance Deskbook, 2nd Ed.
As the potential for liability and damages has increased, so has the need for insurance to protect against such losses. This deskbook is an everyday reference tool for active D & O claims practitioners. Order online here. For information, call (303) 860-0608, toll-free (888) 860-2531 or visit www.cobar.org/cle.

*** Tip of the Week: Support Staff Eligible for CBA Membership
Did you know that your legal support staff can join the CBA? The associate membership category is open to any legal support staff person who is directly supervised by a member attorney. They have the same member benefits, except they cannot hold office, and they cannot vote. Membership dues are $100/year. The CBA also has a very active Paralegal Committee. Encourage your support staff to join the CBA! For more information, contact Membership Services at (303) 860-1115 or membership@cobar.org.
