*** Denver Courts preparing for DNC
During the DNC, Aug. 23-30, Denver County Court will have lighter dockets to handle convention-related matters. While the courts will be open for emergency issues that arise, such as landlord-tenant or restraining orders, no jury trials or civil cases will be set during the week. Judges and magistrates will work extra hours from 8 a.m. to midnight, Saturday, Aug. 23 to Saturday, Aug. 30, to handle DNC related cases. Judges and staff not in court will train and work on court projects. Check local media, the City of Denver and DNC Web sites for updated downtown security measures and road closures.
*** Denver County Court seeks attorney proposals
The City of Denver needs lawyers to contract to represent defendants in municipal court. The cases are typically criminal petty offenses, which may or may not result in jail time. Interested attorneys basically serve as public defenders. Proposals are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29, via U.S. Mail or hand delivery only.

*** Davis Award Nominations Sought
Nominations are due Sept. 1 for the 2008 Richard Marden Davis Award, which honors Denver attorneys under the age of 40 who have demonstrated excellence as a lawyer and leadership in Denver’s civic, educational and charitable activities. The award was established by Davis Graham & Stubbs, the family of Dick Davis, and the Denver Bar Foundation in 1992 to recognize successful and community-minded young attorneys in private and public practice, and to inspire new members of the Denver legal community.
