Bar Association Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year to Susan Cole

DENVER — The Colorado Bar Association, along with its Paralegal Committee, awarded Susan Cole of Arnold & Porter the Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year at the Sixth Annual Award Luncheon on Sept. 27.

Cole manages and arranges several different legal events to help those who are less fortunate, including Project Homeless Connect and Legal Nights at Mi Casa and El Centro San Juan Diego. These programs alone continue to help more than 2500 underprivileged residents of the Metro area who otherwise may not have access to legal services.

An engraved plaque commemorating her accomplishments and a $1,000 donation to Mi Casa Resource Center for Women was presented to Cole after being nominated by Constance Talmage, executive director of the Colorado Lawyers Committee.

“Ms. Cole exemplifies the pro bono spirit,” Talmage said in her nomination. “Despite maintaining a strenuous work-load, Ms. Cole finds time to give back to her community through organizing and coordinating numerous pro bono activities.”

Steven C. Choquette, Esq., of Choquette & Simons was the keynote speaker for the luncheon.

Brian Allensworth of Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, Cheryl Ferne of Dorsey & Whitney and Jenny Kang of The Harris Law Firm also were nominated for the award.

This award was started by the Rocky Mountain Paralegal Association and has been hosted by the CBA Paralegal Committee for the last three years. The award luncheon was started to recognize paralegals who provide pro bono services to the Colorado legal community.
