Every year, the CBA/YLD puts on a CLE program tailored to the needs and interests of newly admitted and soon-to-be admitted Colorado attorneys.  This year’s program will include speakers on professionalism, trial advocacy, ethics and career services.  Specifically, the topics and speakers include the following:

  • “Professionalism/Rule of Law,” presented by the Honorable Judge David Prince of the El Paso County District Court, 4th Judicial District, Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • “Lay Witness Interview and Trial Presentation” with audience participation, presented by the Honorable Judge William Lucero, Presiding Disciplinary Judge, Colorado Supreme Court, Denver
  • “Getting the Most Out of Your Expert,” presented by Herrick K. Lidstone, Jr. of Burns Figa & Will P.C., Greenwood Village
  • “Professionalism in Practice” with video vignettes and audience participation, presented by Julie Haines, trial lawyer with Kennedy Childs & Fogg, P.C., Denver
  • “Professionalism in Networking the Mechanics of Career Development” presented by Hannah Wanebo of University of Denver Sturm College of Law - Career Services, Denver, and Eric Bono and Karen Trojanowski of University of Colorado Law School - Career Development, Boulder

This program is a great way to network and to earn those hard to obtain ethics credits.  Registration for the full-day program is a low cost of $35.00, which includes written materials and lunch.  Please contact James Garts at Garts@PelegrinRadeff.com for registration and more information.

THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO ATTENDED THE ANNUAL CBA/YLD FUNDRAISER SUPPORTING FAMILY TREE!

The CBA-YLD would like to extend thanks to all of you who attended the Annual Fundraiser on October 17th to support Family Tree.  We had a great turn out and we are happy to say that all of our profits from the evening will be donated to Family Tree to assist it with providing its essential services and shelter to metro-Denver families and youth in crisis.  We would like to extend our special thanks and gratitude to Moye White LLP for providing us with a fantastic venue and to WaterCourse Foods, Etica, Avery Beer, New Belgium, Oskar Blues, Coors/Blue Moon Brewing Company and Aspen Brewing Company for providing us with appetizers and beverages for the evening.  We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

THE CBA CIVIL RIGHTS COMMITTEE IS LOOKING FOR YLD MEMBERS

Do you care about civil rights? Do you want to help influence our laws? If so, join the CBA Civil Rights Committee!! The Committee has approximately 100 members and its primary energy is focused on educating the community regarding important civil rights issues and helping the CBA to influence our lawmakers on legislative bills that implicate our civil rights. As a member, you will have opportunities to discuss positions on the various legislative issues in front of the State Legislature and to organize CLEs on interesting and important issues. Committee meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the CBA offices at 5:30 pm. Members interested in legislative activities are invited to participate in weekly conference calls during the legislative session. You do not need experience or expertise in civil rights law to join. For more information, please contact Althea S. Licht at asmileylicht@kln-law.com.

GET INVOLVED WITH THE SENIOR LAW HANDBOOK AND SENIOR LAW DAY

The CBA's Civic and Community Affairs Subcommittee is looking for fresh faces! Join this group to help coordinate the 2009 Senior Law Handbook and plan Senior Law Day.  This is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with Trust and Estate and Elder Law practitioners from around the state, to build lasting relationships and to give back to the community.  This is a very rewarding opportunity for younger attorneys to get involved in the community.  Contact Heather Clark at hclark@cobar.org or 303-824-5350 for more information.

***COMING SOON*** THE YLD EMAIL LISTSERV

In early November, the CBA-YLD will unveil its brand new E-Mail Listserv!  The listserv will enable our members throughout Colorado to communicate with their colleagues and peers like never before.  Through this electronic bulletin board system, you will be able to post and read answers regarding practice questions, to contribute career development ideas and advice, and to learn helpful tips and tricks for all aspects of practice and professional like.  Look for the first emails in your inbox in the next couple of weeks, which will include instructions regarding user options available to each member.

NEED SOME PRO BONO HOURS?

The CBA/YLD continues to assist the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center by providing much-needed assistance in screening potential cases and providing basic information to teens and young adults who need legal services.  Young lawyers will have an opportunity to earn pro bono hours while serving the community.  All volunteers receive training and are scheduled to work an approximate 3-hour shift.  If you are interested, please contact Tiffany Warner at twarneresq@gmail.com.
