IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN… EVERYONE GET ON BOARD THE SKI TRAIN!

This year, the YLD Ski Train trip to Winter Park will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2009.  Bring yourself, family and friends to this awesome opportunity to network and get to know your colleagues in a fun, laid-back setting!  Cost is $49.00 per person for train fare only or $59.00 for train fare and a sack lunch; lift tickets are not included in the price but are available at a discount.  Registration deadline is January 22, 2009 so hurry and don’t miss out.  For more information, you can find the registration form on the website at http://www.cobar.org/repository/CBA%20YLD/CBAYLD_skitrain09.pdf or contact Matthew J. Ninneman at Matt.Ninneman@holtllc.com.  We look forward to seeing you there!

CHRISTMAS IN FEBRUARY

It is almost time for our post-holiday Holiday Party for unprivileged children!  This year, the CBA-YLD will be hosting its Holiday Party in Colorado Springs on Saturday, February 21, 2009, and we are looking for your help and enthusiasm.  Initially, we invite and encourage you to donate any new or gently used children’s toys or clothing to help us provide happiness and enjoyment to some very deserving children.  If you don’t have toys or clothing, we will accept cash donations as we will be asking for wish lists from the children in hopes of fulfilling as many wish list items as possible.  We also would love to have member volunteers to help on the day of the event as we will be providing lunch to the children as well as playing games with the children. Please contact Ben Currier at Benc@m-s-lawyers.com for more information or if you want to help.  This is a great and easy way to give back to our community at large and we hope to see some of you there this year!

BRIDGING THE GAP BREAKFAST

On March 7, 2009, the CBA-YLD will be participating in a Bridging the Gap Breakfast at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.  This is an opportunity to have practicing attorneys join current law students for breakfast and talk about their thoughts on the legal profession in general and specifically share some of their personal experience with and advice about the practice of law.  If you are interested in volunteering to attend the breakfast on this date, please contact Becky Bye at beckybye@gmail.com.  This is a great experience for law students and a rewarding way to connect with the future members of our profession.  We hope to see you there.

THE CBA CIVIL RIGHTS COMMITTEE IS LOOKING FOR YLD MEMBERS

Do you care about civil rights? Do you want to help influence our laws? If so, join the CBA Civil Rights Committee!! The Committee has approximately 100 members and its primary energy is focused on educating the community regarding important civil rights issues and helping the CBA to influence our lawmakers on legislative bills that implicate our civil rights. As a member, you will have opportunities to discuss positions on the various legislative issues in front of the State Legislature and to organize CLEs on interesting and important issues. Committee meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the CBA offices at 5:30 pm. Members interested in legislative activities are invited to participate in weekly conference calls during the legislative session. You do not need experience or expertise in civil rights law to join. For more information, please contact Althea S. Licht at asmileylicht@kln-law.com.

GET INVOLVED WITH THE SENIOR LAW HANDBOOK AND SENIOR LAW DAY

The CBA's Civic and Community Affairs Subcommittee is looking for fresh faces! Join this group to help coordinate the 2009 Senior Law Handbook and plan Senior Law Day.  This is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with Trust and Estate and Elder Law practitioners from around the state, to build lasting relationships and to give back to the community.  This is a very rewarding opportunity for younger attorneys to get involved in the community.  Contact Heather Clark at hclark@cobar.org or 303-824-5350 for more information.

NEED SOME PRO BONO HOURS?

The CBA/YLD continues to assist the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center by providing much-needed assistance in screening potential cases and providing basic information to teens and young adults who need legal services.  Young lawyers will have an opportunity to earn pro bono hours while serving the community.  All volunteers receive training and are scheduled to work an approximate 3-hour shift.  If you are interested, please contact Tiffany Warner at twarneresq@gmail.com.

UNIQUE YLD DISCOUNTS

YLD Special Discounts Are Back!  As members of the CBA/YLD, you are entitled to special discounts and promotions from various Colorado businesses.  Please check out our website for more details.
