CBA/YLD Announcements and Upcoming Events… Mark Your Calendar Now and Get Involved!

On Saturday, February 21, 2009, we will host our annual Christmas in February party, a post-holiday celebration for unprivileged and foster children in Colorado.  This year, the event will be held in Colorado Springs at the Meadows Park Community Center, where we’ll be providing lunch and donated toys and clothing to some very deserving children from the El Paso County area.  We are looking for your help and enthusiasm.  Initially, we invite and encourage you to donate new or gently used children’s toys or clothing to help us provide happiness and enjoyment to these deserving children.  If you don’t have toys or clothing, we are also accepting cash donations as we will be asking for wish lists from the children prior to the event in hopes of fulfilling as many wish list items as possible.  We also have flyers available for you to post at your office to encourage others to donate as well.  Donations are being accepted at the Colorado Bar Association office at 1900 Grant Street, Suite 900 in Denver, Colorado, but we are also willing to make other arrangements to pick up or receive donations if necessary.  Additionally, we invite you to attend and help out with the party so that you can directly participate in this great event.  Please contact Ben Currier at to make donation arrangements, to get a flyer for your office or to make arrangements to attend the party.  This is a wonderful and easy way of helping some really deserving children in Colorado, especially in this hard economic time.  Thank you in advance for your consideration and donation!

On Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 6:00 p.m., we will be co-hosting the first-ever Legal Movie Night at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law along with the Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and the Business Law Society of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.  We will be showing “Michael Clayton” starring George Clooney and we will have a guest speaker to introduce the film and to discuss 1) the ethical dilemmas and obligations that arise for attorneys who represent companies and for in-house counsel, and 2) how to avoid the ethical pitfalls of such practice.  There will be no cost to attend the event and one (1) general and one (1) ethics CLE credit have been requested.  Please mark your calendars and join us for a night of theatrical enjoyment, discussion and, of course, food and beverage refreshments.  Please feel free to contact Becky Bye at or Lucia Padilla at for more information.  Also, you can RSVP by calling (303) 860-1115, ext. 727, or emailing; don’t forget to include your name and “DBA YLD Legal Film Night” in your email.

On March 7, 2009, the CBA-YLD will be participating in a Bridging the Gap Breakfast at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.  This is an opportunity to have practicing attorneys join current law students for breakfast and talk about their thoughts on the legal profession in general and specifically share some of their personal experience with and advice about the practice of law.  If you are interested in volunteering to attend the breakfast on this date, please contact Becky Bye at  This is a great experience for law students and a rewarding way to connect with the future members of our profession.  We hope to see you there.

Ever wonder how to get more involved with your local bar associations and specialty bar associations and committees?  If so, we invite you to join us on Friday, March 20, 2009, for an Open House Reception where representatives from various local bars and specialty associations and committees will be present to provide information about their groups and to answer any questions you may have about becoming more active members of your localities and practice areas.  Those attending the reception are also invited to join the CBA-YLD immediately following the reception for a night with the Denver Nuggets where they will be taking on the Washington Wizards.  We have 100 Club-Level tickets reserved for those attending the reception at a price of $40.00 each.  However, the first fifty people to RSVP for the reception will receive the tickets at the discounted price of $30.00 each.  The tickets will be available for pick up at the reception.  Please contact Michael A. Paul at for more information and if you plan to attend the reception and want to reserve your Nuggets tickets.

Denver Bar Association’s Annual Barristers Benefit Ball
