*** Former DBA President wins Hispanic Bar award
Elsa Martinez Tenreiro, DBA President 2007-2008, was chosen by the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association to receive the annual Chris Miranda Outstanding Hispanic Lawyer Award. The award will be presented at the CHBA’s banquet, 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Stonebrook Manor Event Center & Gardens in Thornton. The keynote speaker is Carlos Sandoval, director of “A Class Apart,” a film that chronicles the murder conviction of Pedro Hernandez that was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, where he received the right to a new trial by his peers. For information about the banquet, contact Damian Arguello at damian.arguello@dgslaw.com or (303) 892-7411.

*** Nominate Lawyer Volunteers of the Year – Deadline approaching
The DBA Awards Committee is seeking nominations for the following awards: DBA Award of Merit, DBA Volunteer Lawyer of the Year, DBA Young Lawyer of the Year and Judicial Excellence. Please submit (e-mail preferred) the name, award and summary of why that person deserves the honor to Christine McManus at cmcmanus@cobar.org. Feel free to resubmit nominees who may have been previously nominated but not selected. Nominations are due Feb. 5.

*** Free marketing
As the centerfold, the Legal Affairs section in The Docket is one of our best-read features every month. Submit announcements with photos about promotions, new hires, new office locations in Denver, nuptials, and birth and death announcements. Due to the large number of lawyers honored by publications, we are not able to publish those types of announcements. Send notices to Tara Miller at tmiller@cobar.org.

*** A Denver attorney's third nonfiction crime book
In the January issue, longtime Docket writer Marshall Snider reviews "The Past is Never Dead" by Harry MacLean. Other titles by MacLean include "In Broad Daylight" and "Once Upon a Time."

*** Sign up your firm for the fun and easy Toothbrush Drive
The Annual Toothbrush Drive to benefit Kids In Need of Dentistry is Feb. 8-12. Sign up today and be part of the DBA’s Community Action Network event.
