*** Davis Award Nominations Sought
Nominations are invited for the 2010 Richard Marden Davis Award, "...to honor attorneys under the age of 40 who have demonstrated excellence as a lawyer and leadership in Denver’s civic, educational and charitable activities." The award was established by Davis Graham & Stubbs, the family of Dick Davis, and the Denver Bar Foundation in 1992 to recognize successful and community-minded attorneys in private and public practice, and to inspire new members of the Denver legal community. The 2009 Davis Award recipient was Monica Marquez (Deputy Attorney General, State Services Section, Office of the Attorney General). Nominations are due Sept. 1. *** CLE: Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 and the U.S. Supreme Court, July 23
This one-hour luncheon program will review the four cases the U.S. Supreme Court heard and decided in this last term involving bankruptcy. Several of these decisions provide much needed guidance and understanding of the changes brought on by BAPCPA.

This mediation training is taught by Judy Mares-Dixon, M.A., who has worked in the conflict resolution field for nearly 25 years and mediates contract disputes, collective bargaining agreements, public policy disputes, sexual harassment, ADA and other EEO complaints. In the training you will learn: Diagnosing Causes of Conflict; the Stages of Mediation; Dealing With Threats, Demands and Other Toxic Language; How to Resolve Financial Issues; How to Structure Sound, Realistic, Mutually Acceptable Settlements; How to Manage Power Issues and Ethical Dilemmas; and Building a Mediation Practice.
*** Pro se instructors needed for popular Small Claims and Collections clinics
The DBA Public Legal Education Department needs instructors for both the Small Claims and the Collection pro se clinics. The popular clinics are offered once a month, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Denver County Court Civil Division. Volunteer attorneys simply offer guidance on gathering information, filing forms, defending one's position and court procedures.
