Chronicle Your Activities in The Colorado Lawyer

There are nine issue of The Colorado Lawyer remaining in FY 2010–11. Wouldn’t you like to get a write-up about your section, committee, or local or specialty bar event or program in at least five of those issues? There’s the Bar News section, the Calendar of Events pages, or plain old “filler” space that might be available somewhere in the publication. Photos are always welcomed. Then, when you’re looking for annual report material, simply go to the source! Send your info and photos to Susie Klein at sklein@cobar.org.
Spread the Word: “Know Your Judge” Campaign
Voters want qualified judges and fair and impartial courts, but when it's time to vote, they often skip past judges or they make random choices on their ballots. On behalf of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System at the University of Denver and their partners, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Judicial Institute, and the League of Women Voters of Colorado, www.knowyourjudge.com was created to help Coloradans make informed decisions when selectingjudges on this fall’s ballot. The hope is that this website will offer a comprehensive tool for voters to help guide them during this election season. Also, keep your eyes and ears open for television and radio public service announcements, which will be running this election season.

Tip of the Week — The Ultimate Guide to Gmail

Many lawyers are using Gmail for business and/or personal e-mail. The Ultimate Guide to Gmail by Taty Sena is a free, handy and very informative PDF guide to using Gmail. It also includes valuable links to Gmail shortcuts and a Gmail cheat-sheet. It explains labels, setting, advanced settings, filters and more. If you are using Google Docs, Google Calendar, Tasks, or need help on just about any topic in Gmail this handy PDF document will likely provide some useful assistance for you.

Thanks to Diane Ebersole of the State Bar of Michigan and the ABA Practice Management Advisers for this tip.

Bob Hinds and Past Section Chairs Honored at Family Law Institute
Approximately 350 Colorado family law attorneys enjoyed a three-day weekend in Steamboat Springs at the annual Family Law Institute. The Family Law Section took this opportunity to honor its third Icon Award recipient, along with all of the chairs who have led the section throughout its 35-year history. The Icon Award was established in 2008 and is presented each year at the Institute to a family law practitioner who has made a significant contribution toward improving the practice of family law during his or her career. The award was given to Barbara Quade in 2008 and to Joan McWilliams in 2009. On Saturday, Bob Hinds was honored as the 2010 recipient. Read more from "The Learned Lawyer" here!
