Justice Michael L. Bender Named Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court
Justice Michael L. Bender today became the 44th member of the Colorado Supreme Court to be named Chief Justice since Colorado’s statehood in 1876. The decision, which was made by his fellow justices, is effective Dec. 1, and follows the news of Chief Justice Mullarkey’s retirement earlier this year. Read more on The Learned Lawyer.
The 18th JD’s Child and Family Investigator List

The 18th Judicial District has a CFI list posted on its website. The CFIs listed are the only ones eligible to be appointed in cases in this District. This was a decision made by the 18th JD Administration, to ensure our compliance with CJD 04-08. The listed CFIs met the minimum qualifications listed on the application. If parties request the appointment of a CFI who is not on the list, even by stipulation, that CFI will not be appointed. This restriction does not apply to Evaluations under C.R.S. § 14-10-127.

Really Cool Tool:  VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Scanner—Cheap, It Really Works

My counterpart in Oklahoma, Jim Calloway, recently reviewed the VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Scanner on his blog.  With the holidays coming up (and even if they weren’t), this gadget works, it’s easy to use, and it’s inexpensive at about $80–100. Check it out at There’s a link to the VuPoint website, a demonstration video, and a fact sheet with all the details.  Diane Ebersole, my counterpart in Michigan further posted this follow-up: “If you decide to buy one, find a 20% off coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond, available from most 11/07/10 Sunday papers or at a number of sites on the web, and buy the Wand at your nearest Bed Bath and Beyond store or from their website.  Reduce the price of the Wand from $100 to $80 using the coupon and then you have $20 to buy the memory card for the Wand. Bed Bath and Beyond also sells Micro SD cards.  The Wand can handle up to a 32 GB card.    Thanks to Laurie Axinn Gienapp, Esq. of Bradford MA for sharing her shopping acumen with the members of Solosez ( , the discussion list for solo & small firm lawyers sponsored by the ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division.”
