Bench and Bar Retreat: Civil Access Pilot Project, Saturday, Nov. 19
The topic for this year's retreat will be the Civil Access Pilot Project in the District Courts: Limits on Discovery in Business Cases. After a brief presentation on the changes that will take effect in select district courts on Jan. 1, attendees will be split into discussion groups, which will include judges, to discuss these changes and broader topics on whether trials can be fair and effective with limited discovery. The retreat will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westminster. Four CLE credits, including ethics, will be requested. Click here for more information or to RSVP.

Join us for Coffee Talk with Nancy Cohen from 8 to 9 a.m. on Dec. 1 at the DBA offices, 1900 Grant St. Suite 900. Cohen is of counsel with Wheeler Trigg O'Donnell. She handles complex commercial, employment, product liability, and professional liability lawsuits. Before joining WTO in 2010, Nancy was the Chief Deputy Regulation Counsel with the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. One CLE credit has been requested. Support MVL on Colorado Gives Day, Tuesday, Dec. 6
For the second year, Metro Volunteer Lawyers is participating in Colorado Gives Day, which aims to support nonprofits that protect and nurture quality of life in Colorado. For 24 hours, starting at midnight on Dec. 6, donations will be taken online to local nonprofits, including MVL. One hundred percent of your donation will go to MVL, supporting its mission to provide free and low-cost legal services to people in need. For more information or to donate, click here.

DBA Mentoring Program: Applications due Tuesday, Nov. 15
The Denver Bar Association is accepting applications for both mentors and mentees for the 2012 program. The program's objectives are to promote pride in the profession; excellence in service; and strong relationships with the bar, courts, clients, and the public. This is accomplished by teaching the core values and ideals of the legal profession, as well as, the best practices for meeting those ideals. The Lawyers Basketball League will kick off its 2012 season in January at the University of Denver Hamilton Gym. The expected team entry fee will range from $650 to $750.
