The Denver Bar Association seeks nominees to serve as Colorado Bar Association Vice President representing the First District (Denver). This is a one-year term beginning July 2013, serving on the CBA Executive Council and Board of Governors. Nominations are due by Sept. 14. ‘Miss Representation’ Screening—Thursday, Aug. 23
DBA-CBA Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee, in partnership with the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, will host a screening of “Miss Representation,” the award-winning documentary and must-see for men and women. The film exposes mainstream media’s gender bias and influence on women’s ability to assume leadership positions. A moderated discussion will follow the screening. Difference Works—Wednesday, Aug. 29
DBA-CBA Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee, in partnership with the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, will host “Difference Works: Attorney Leadership, Retention & Results.” Caroline Turner, gender and generational differences expert, will discuss ways to increase employee engagement, reduce turnover, and maximize the value of your diverse workforce. New Legal Clinic at the Denver Indian Center
Metro Volunteer Lawyers and the Denver Indian Center have started a monthly walk-in clinic for people with legal questions related to Native American issues. Clinic volunteers provide advice and referrals, as well as assist with criminal, family law, and landlord/tenant cases. If you would like to volunteer at these clinics, please contact MVL Executive Director Diane Van Voorhees, at 303-866-9378 or diannev@denbar.org. The clinics take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.
DBA’s Pro Bono Initiative
The DBA recently formed the DBA Pro Bono Initiative, which assists attorneys in finding a pro bono opportunity that is right for them. If you are interested in receiving assistance from the DBA Pro Bono Initiative, please complete this form and return it to Carolyn Gravit. After completing the form, you will be contacted by a DBA Pro Bono Initiative volunteer to discuss the next steps.

Chief Judge Robert Hyatt Receives 2012 Judicial Excellence Award
The Colorado Judicial institute is pleased to announce that the 2012 Judicial Excellence Awards District Court honoree is Chief Judge Robert Hyatt from the 2nd Judicial District. This year’s County Court honoree is Judge Susanna Meissner-Cutler (Douglas County/18th Judicial District) and the Magistrate honoree is Magistrate Bonnie McLean (Arapahoe County/18th Judicial District). All three honorees will be recognized at the Tenth Annual Judicial Excellence Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Denver Marriott City Center.
