Flood Legal Relief—Volunteers Needed

The Joint Disaster Legal Services Task Force comprises the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Legal Services, Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, and several local bar associations. Earlier this week, the Task Force, in conjunction with FEMA and the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, launched a website and helpline for victims of the floods earlier this week. Transitions Lunch—Monday, Sept. 23—Health Care Changes Coming!

Monday, Sept. 23 at noon, is the date of the next Transitions lunch at the CBA CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., 3rd floor. This program will focus on the new Health Care Act and what lawyers in solo practices and small firms need to know and what they need to do to prepare for the implementation. Protection Order Forms, Forms to Seal Juvenile Records Amended by State Judicial

In August and September, the Colorado State Judicial Branch overhauled its Protection Order forms and issued revised forms in several different categories. State Judicial’s Probate forms also were amended in August, as previously reported by Legal Connection. Click here to read more.

 

Tenth Circuit: Plaintiffs Failed to Establish Statutory Standing Under Colorado State Law

The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals published its opinion in Niemi v. Lasshofer on Friday, Sept. 6. John Niemi and his investors set out to build a luxury ski condominium complex in Breckenridge, in two phases, working through a set of companies controlled by Mesatex. However, traditional financing proved hard to find. After completing the first phase of development no bank was willing to loan the $220 million needed to finish the project. So, they looked for alternative sources. Click here to read more.
