Employment Law Fall Update—Friday, Nov. 15

The theme for the 2013 fall update is “new”—new cases and new legislation. Experienced faculty members will share their analysis of cases and statutes and what they mean for your employment law practice. They will discuss crimes in the workplace, the most recent U.S. Supreme Court cases on arbitration and retaliation, and current trends in FLSA/collective actions. They will also cover questions about workplace violence. Peter Wingate, Deputy Director of the Colorado Division of Labor and Employment, plans to discuss new Colorado employment law legislation assigned to the Division. Register now.

IAALS: Recipe for Rules Change Success: An Update on Colorado’s Pilot Project Evaluation

IAALS follows a four-step framework for continuous improvement of the American civil justice system. Within our Rule One Initiative, we gather research on existing court processes, convene stakeholder groups to develop recommended models aimed at increasing efficiency and access while reducing costs and delays, facilitate the implementation of those models, and support measurement of their outcomes. This process provides a feedback loop for crafting civil procedures that make a real and positive difference for all who use our courts, on both sides of the “v”. Click here to read more.

Tenth Circuit: Return of Children in Hague Convention Case Affirmed

The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals published its opinion in West v. Dobrev on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Petitioner Livia West and Respondent Stanislav Dobrev were married in the U. St. and their two children were born here. The family moved to France and after about a year, West filed for divorce. The French court ordered the children to remain in the usual home of West. Free Microsoft Templates

Microsoft's website has many free templates that you can download. Check it out a You can search by keyword, category, or the application (Word, Excel, etc.)

The templates include everything from expense reports (with built-in formulas), to charts you can use to keep track of basketball tournament pairings, to business cards. There is truly something for everyone. As you look them over, don't forget that they are customizable - you can add the name of your law firm, change the name of the document, the headers, etc. Even if you find a template with a layout and graphics that you like, but it was designed for a different purpose, you can download it and change those features. I guarantee you'll find something you can use!
