Metro Volunteer Lawyers

Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL) is a pro bono attorney referral service for low-income residents of the metropolitan Denver area (Adams/Broomfield Counties, Arapahoe County, Denver County, Douglas/Elbert Counties, and the First Judicial District).  MVL accepts only civil cases that are not fee-generating.

Individual Case Referrals
MVL needs attorneys willing to accept no-fee or low-fee cases in the following areas:

  • Family Law
  • Consumer
  • Housing
  • Financial
  • Estate Planning
  • Social Security

MVL can provide training, reference materials, mentoring, and professional services for referred cases.  MVL can also certify that clients qualify to file cases without paying the state filing fee.

Family Law Court Program (FLCP)
MVL needs attorneys to provide 3 to 4 hours of service to clients who have filed divorce and custody cases pro se, with assistance through the Family Law Court Program.  FLCP volunteers help clients prepare their permanent orders and present their cases to the Judge or Magistrate.  Volunteers enter their appearance, represent the client for that one morning or afternoon, and withdraw from the case that same day.  FLCP provides all the forms, mentoring, and technical assistance.

For more information or to volunteer, please check the website at www.metrovolunteerlawyers.org, or call the Executive Director, Dianne Van Voorhees, at (303) 866-9378.
