Advocates for Children: CASA Volunteer
Volunteer CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are community members who ease the overburdened child welfare system by volunteering to advocate for children affected by abuse and neglect. CASAs get to know these children and speak up for them in court, providing the court parties with timely, pertinent information to help ensure that the child's best interests are served. In addition, a child's CASA is often the single constant presence and source of comfort throughout the child's long and sometimes frightening journey through the child welfare system.
Volunteers are needed in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties. CASAs must be 21 years or older, and willing to commit 10 hours of their time each month for the duration of a case (12-18 months). Volunteers must attend 30 hours of training in order to be sworn in by the court to serve as a CASA.
